How To Hang Heavy Wall Art Without Nails

People love decorating a home for the holidays or a festivity to put themselves into a celebratory mood. The worst part about this is the effort put for either drilling or hammering nails into a wall. There are different methods to avoid this and hang wall art securely with no damage.

Picture Hanging Strips

A smooth surface for proper adhesion is needed for picture hanging strips, so removing any mounting hardware such as nails or screws on the back of the picture is necessary. Both the picture and the wall where it will be hung need to be wiped with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol before applying the adhesive picture hanging strips. After application, the adhesive strips should be left to dry, and the frame lined up with the strips on the wall.

Press-in Hooks

There are four different types - Monkey Hook that hold a weight of 35 pounds, Gorilla Hook for artworks at 50 pounds, Super Hook for artworks at 80 pounds, and Hercules Hook for a massive weight of 150 pounds. These puncture a small hole in the wall but require no tools for installment. The hook should be pushed through the wall so that it sticks out allowing the hook for an upright positioning. Heavier pictures require more than one hook. The artwork is hung with a wire strung along the back of the picture frame, making it easier to line it up on the hooks.

Washi Tape

Washi tape is a cost-effective method for attaching pictures to a wall, which depends on the weight of the picture. It is most efficient to adhere little pieces of either vinyl or tape to all four corners of it. The room gains color, pattern, and texture by utilizing high quality tape for the adhesion.

Hook-And-Loop Tapes

This type of adhesive is also known as Velcro and is especially useful when frequently moving the position of pictures. The hook-and-loop tape is not only suitable for hanging photographs but also fabric, frames on the wall and window treatments. It can also be used to decorate furniture or enables one to secure anything in a virtual way.

Pegboard

A pegboard is already filled with holes, which means there is no need to make some with a hammer. The back of the frame can be hooked on pegboard hangers according to personal taste.

A bookshelf

Another idea would be to use a bookshelf. Framed pictures can be propped on the shelf closest to eye level for an easy display, where an artwork is supposed to be hung.

A Bulletin Wall

The entire wall can be turned into a bulletin cork board, on which one can pin anything without causing any damage or permanent marks.

Command Strips

Command strips are suitable for hanging lightweight pictures. The surface should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol before attaching the strips. A level helps to determine where and how to hang items, especially if a picture needs to be hung straight.

Mounting Putty

Mounting putty is an adhesive, which was used for hanging photographs in the past. It is now also beneficial for hanging lightweight frames or canvas artwork.

Easels

An artwork can also be displayed on an easel positioned using extra space on the floor. It is used as a decoration piece and is flexible, which means it can be placed anywhere and at any time around the home.

A Prop

Props such as a ladder are also great as either a bookshelf or art display for placing pictures in a space without any use of nails.

Moldings

When living in an old house or apartment, one may find a picture rail molding along the tops of the walls. All that is needed is an inexpensive hook added over the rail and then adjusted to lengths of framing wire to hang a picture where needed. It is not simple but will keep the walls in their original state, without damage caused by nails.

Fireplace Mantels

Fireplace mantels are not only great for showcasing family photos but also artworks. All that must be done is to place the framed artwork on the mantel. If the fireplace is regularly used, one needs to monitor the temperature surrounding the mantel and keep it within the normal range to not ruin the artwork.
